I first got into astrology because of my mother. We used to read our horoscopes in our local newspaper together. When I went off to college, she cut out my daily horoscope and sent it to me. By the time I got it, the future had already happened, but that was never the point. She just wanted to let me know that she had been thinking about me.
When I lived in New York City as a young adult, I’d often go to the drug store just to read the horoscopes in women’s magazines. In my 30s when my first husband and I separated, I happened to find an apartment in Brooklyn near Maha Rose, a spiritual and wellness center that offered astrology workshops. I began working with the astrologer Leslie Galbraith, who taught me how to read a chart. I remember once when we met up for tea, she told me something so profound about my chart that had to do with my mother that I started to cry at the table. That’s when I really got it, when I started to understand the power of astrology.
In 2020, a couple things happened that deepened my commitment to astrology. The first was that my husband and I started trying to have a baby. It was fascinating to see how the astrology aligned (or didn’t) with our efforts. As above, so below, the saying goes. Then I happened to pick up a book called “The Endless Sky” by Steven Forrest, a collection of personal, esoteric essays on astrology. I thought maybe I’d understand half of it at best, but I grasped everything he was saying. I had underestimated myself (story of my life!). His book contained an interesting essay on whether astrology charts live on after we die. That piqued my curiosity about my mother’s chart, which led me to publish my first essay on astrology in “The Los Angeles Times.”
Last year, I studied transits and progressions with Steven Forrest at Omega Institute and traveled to Italy to study traditional astrology with Kelly Surtees.

“I’ve had several readings with Betsy and each time I’ve walked away completely amazed by the accuracy and insight she’s provided. Her guidance has consistently resonated with what’s happening in my life — sometimes even before I fully recognize it myself. Most recently, I was in the middle of an house-hunting process, and Betsy told me the timing looked right for finding a place soon. Sure enough, within her window of likely days, everything lined up and we found the perfect place. It felt surreal how aligned her prediction was with reality, especially given the circumstances of a place we’d previously been bidding on (and lost!) coming back on the market! What I appreciate most is not just the accuracy, but the clarity and compassion in how Betsy delivers her insights. Her readings have helped me feel more grounded and confident around making decisions (or bracing myself!), whether it’s around relationships, work, or major life transitions. If you’re looking for someone who really gets it and can help illuminate your path with depth and intuition, I can’t recommend Betsy enough.’

“Betsy has done several readings for me. All were relevant, helpful, and fun. Her understanding and interpretation of astrology is deftly conveyed and deeply insightful. Betsy’s readings are straightforward and clear, and did I mention fun? She is generous in her explanations of astrology and my natal chart, and how it can help me navigate my life going forward. I highly recommend her!

“Betsy is my go-to astrologer to lead me through the Mercury and Venus retrogrades that would normally toss me around. Her guidance has been clear, easy-to-understand, deep and relevant to me and my life. I keep my notes handy for months—Oh, yes, Betsy mentioned mechanical things were going to get wacky right around now . . . that’s why I keep getting a flat tire! I recommend Betsy to all my friends looking for straightforward, down-to-earth, profound counsel from an astrological perspective.”
